Meet Jen

Jen O’Herron has been an animal lover her entire life. While most kids spent time with their cats or dogs, Jen spent her time catching frogs and turtles that she’d happily add to the family’s cache of pets.

That love of animals continued into adulthood as she built quite the wild brood of pets – dogs, cats, reptiles and more. When a friend commented that Jen could entertain the neighborhood kids for hours with her pets, the idea for A Girl with Scales was born.

Jen wants everyone to better understand reptiles and become more comfortable with our scaly friends. She knows that each and every reptile comes with its own personality and it’s her hope that she can introduce some of those personalities to kids.

Meet the Non-Scaly Crew

It takes a village to manage all those scaly personalities. Jen’s lucky — she has help at shows and at home. Her dad is a familiar face at events, helping wrangle reptiles, set up habitats, and keep things running smoothly. And at home, the rest of the non-scaly crew helps keep daily routines in check, making sure everyone — scales included — stays happy and in line.

Grandpa Scales (aka Jen’s Dad)

Grandfather to all the Scales and to Jen’s various pets, Grandpa Scales is a vital part of the crew. Whether it’s helping with transport, teaching about the Scales or simply handling Sal while watching the presentation he’s Jen’s right-hand man. As you can see by his shirt, he’s a big Mr. Wilson fan and Mr. Wilson feels exactly the same!
